You may have a number of questions when it comes to your children’s dental healthcare. At Planet Dental, want to ensure all your questions are answered, so we have provided answers to some commonly-asked pediatric dental questions. As a parent or caregiver, you have the right to know how and with what your child is being treated.
What happens during my child’s first visit to the dentist?
We value your time, so a child’s first visit will usually be short and sweet. Our main priority at this point is to get to know your child and let them get to know our dentists and team. We will give you basic information and answer any question or concern you may have.
How can I best prepare my child for his or her first dental appointment?
The best preparation for a first visit would be a positive attitude. The more at ease and calm you feel, the more calm your child will feel, which can make a huge difference. We want your children to feel comfortable, relaxed, and most importantly, safe. Showing your child our gallery of photos may help him or her to feel at ease, as well as explaining the importance of keeping their teeth and gums clean and healthy is a great segue into talking about what our dentists will do at their first visit.
What is the best way to ensure my baby’s teeth are clean?
Dental healthcare starts even before the first tooth erupts, so it’s important to clean your child’s gums after feedings by swabbing them with a damp, warm washcloth. When the first tooth arrives, you can start using a toothbrush. Our dentists recommend using a toothbrush with soft bristles and a small head, which you typically find at a drugstore.
My child plays sports. How can I protect his or her teeth and jaw?
Mouth guards are a great solution for children who are play contact sports, such as baseball, football, and soccer. Contact us for more information on getting a custom-fit mouth guard.
